Why Bother Stretching Or Using  Stretches?

Why is it that stretching (or using stretches) always seems to be something we struggle to find time for, even though it is crucial for our muscular/ joint health and well-being?

Often peoples reason to not stretch (for whatever reason) is that they don’t know ‘what to do’ or that they see no benefit.

A great reason to stretch is simply that (for sporty people) stretching helps you to enhance your performance, decrease the likely hood of injury, minimises muscle soreness, and for those of you who are not ‘sporty’ it reduces/ removes the impact of repetitive use of a limb as well as aches and pains due to poor posture.

Whilst there are several methods of stretching it is a good idea (especially for a beginner or sedentary person) to stick to ‘Static’  stretches. A static stretch basically means stretches which are performed without movement; this is a very safe and effective form of stretching with minimal threat of injury.

What Will Stretching Do For You?

  • Improve your range of movement
  • Increase your muscular power
  • Reduce post-exercise soreness
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Improve your posture
  • Reduce joint pain
  • Improve co-ordination
  • Reduce stress & increase relaxation
  • Promote circulation
