Tips for Alleviating Sciatica Pain During Pregnancy
If you are suffering from sciatica, then sleeping can be very difficult, more so if it is on the left side.
Did you know lying on the opposite side of the pain is known to relieve pressure from the nerve?
For extra comfort and support use a body pillow. When you sleep with a body pillow, wrap your leg on top over the pillow and move your hips so that your weight is equally distributed across the bottom leg.
As you progress through your pregnancy it can be very effective if you prop a pillow or cushion under the bump to ease the strain of the bump weight from your lower back. Whenever you feel uncomfortable, change sides immediately. This helps in easing the discomfort/pain.
Sitting in one place for a length of time can cause or aggravate sciatica. Therefore, it is advised to stand, walk and stretch often. If you have been sitting for a long time, try to sit forward, to remove the pressure off the hips. Stretch, point and flex your feet and toes, which will create movement along the sciatic nerve.

Healthy pregnancy requires that you adjust your body to all the necessary changes that are needed to grow a healthy baby. Exercise will support increase your body stamina. If your are not used to exercising, then start doing a little bit of walking even if it is for 10 minutes everyday. In case you exercise regularly continue your exercise program as long as you do not turn into breathless. Shortness of breath reduces the oxygen supply to your baby and is not conducive to a healthy pregnancy.
