I hope that not only did you smile but that you too have (or thought) written a silly note to self?! Lets face it, we all want to fix the body, get fit, eat healthier or buy new trainers? 2012 is such a ‘sporty year’ here in the UK, its really difficult not to consider your own personal fitness levels especially with the summer holidays just starting?
We’ve had the Tennis, marathon, Cycling, Cricket and the Football, in less than two weeks we have The Olympics! Hugest congratulations to Jonathon Marray, who won the men’s double final with Frederik Neilson: The first British win in 76 years, Fabulous!! Go Team GB!
Fix Body!
It’s not a lifetime ago that I was at the gym 4 times a week at 6am, ran 1-2 hours cross country/ moor running (in Cornwall) at least once a week let alone a good old 8-10 hour coastal/ moor hike at least once a month… Now it’s a bit of Swimming, walking and fairly consistent stretching!!!
I often wonder quite how I ever had the time to exercise, but like you I am sure, work and personal commitments change and one of the first things to slip (or completely go!) is exercise. I recently decided ‘NO MORE EXCUSES’ its time to do it! You see for me it’s not just a case of ‘getting fitter’.
The real reason is that at 44 years old I have noticed a massive change in my own body mechanics, partly due to lack of targeted activity (it’s not like I’m not active!) but more concerning due to my lifestyle, especially my general day-to-day posture.
My wrists and hands are strong and flexible, but I checked my range of movement to find a vast difference. I was shocked! The great thing is quite literally 30-60 seconds later I was able to put it right.
More recently I noted my right hip had ‘lost’ its ability to fully rotate to the left. Once again, no biggie because I just put it right, but for me the shock of both of these occurrences was that I had no idea there was a problem, and there was no pain.
I realised that to finally get back to ‘normal’ I had to alter the way I ran my entire life.. hence, ‘note to self’
Fix Posture
The next part of the plan is to ‘Sort Out Posture’ at work due to the extensive time I spend on the computer whilst the gentle reintroduction to exercise. Click HERE to read more.
So, finally I am looking to introduce some regular exercise into my life. And of course, new exercise=new trainers!
I’m considering Bare Foot Running and trainers. I don’t know much about them but I found this great Article and thought you may benefit its honesty about BAREFOOT RUNNING.
Fun Additional Note To Self: Never wear Bare Foots on the tube at rush-hour like the guy last week. Think lady +stiletto heels… ouch!!
